RedLight’s “Idea of Mine” Merges Garage-Born Grit with Nostalgic Alt-Rock Soul

Straight out from the garage studios of Le Rove, the Marseille-based rock band RedLight offers a raw and authentic statement with the new single “Idea of Mine.” A true work of DIY art, the track showcases RedLight’s complete hands-on approach to art-making, from writing to arrangement to mixing, in their hometown, garage.

RedLight's official formation was in 2007, and the band gathers its influences from the golden era of alternative rock - Pearl Jam, The Cure, Pixies, The Strokes, and even The Beatles. "Idea of Mine" is a prime example of coveting their influences while adding their pinch of a stamp to it with a uniquely French indie rock take. There's a quality of enjoying rough-around-the-edges charm, and not being too polished, that feels more personal than unrealistic, a trait that is quickly vanishing in music dominated by overproduced anthems.

"Idea of Mine" plays like a letter a person might write in a time capsule into the past, although written in the present, therefore nostalgic, melodic, and emotionally antsy. With thick, gritty guitar tones, cadence-filled vocals, and strong dynamics, the song hints at their 10-track upcoming album's unified vision that was waiting to bridge the next step forward. If this single is anything to go by, RedLight's full-length album will be a deeply felt exploration of sound and self, with passion, not perfection, taking the front seat. Keep an eye on this DIY juggernaut hailing from the South of France.
