New Laconia’s “Coming Home” A Stirring, Wordless Anthem for a Changing World

With "Coming Home," Ukrainian conceptual band New Laconia continues to break new sonic ground while giving a deeply human message without a single word. Founded by Alex Syniakov in Dnipro, the band constructs a project combining film soundtracks' cinematic largesse with the texture and finesse of progressive rock and fantasy world-building that makes us all feel and connect around the world.

"Coming Home" is the band's third single, possibly their most raw and emotional yet. As an instrumental, the track is intended to convey the quiet sorrow of being displaced and the bittersweet longing for belonging. The absence of words is not a lack - it is a choice: Syniakov and his team demonstrate that some feelings and emotions are beyond words, especially in loss, war, and transition.

The imagery in the song is of a captain who returns from a war his side has lost, a metaphor that rings unbearably true in light of Ukraine’s current circumstances. But rather than to descend into despair as too many other songs of this genre do, “Coming Home” envelops listeners in lush, melodic textures that hint at longing and resolve. There are synth swells, layered guitars, and rhythmic pulses that bear the burden of unspoken dialogue - a song that haunts and heals.

New Laconia's universe continues to grow with virtuosity and courage, and "Coming Home" is a signpost on that journey.
