HZPROD’s “WarTorn” is more than a seven-track hip-hop EP. It is a producer-led artistic statement that uses music as a platform for reflection, empathy, and humanitarian awareness. Created by Bosnian-born, New York-raised producer Damir Hadzalic, known professionally as HZPROD, the project stands as a powerful example of how music can address global realities while remaining emotionally engaging and creatively ambitious.
The foundation of “WarTorn” comes from lived experience. Born during the Bosnian War and later returning to help rebuild his mother’s home after it had been destroyed during the conflict, HZPROD carries a personal understanding of displacement, resilience, and recovery. Rather than framing these experiences as personal tragedy, he uses them as a lens through which broader human struggles can be examined. The result is a project that speaks to communities affected by violence while emphasizing the possibility of rebuilding and hope.
Unlike traditional hip-hop releases centered on a single performer, “WarTorn” places the producer’s vision at the heart of the narrative. HZPROD conceptualized, financed, coordinated, and developed the project independently, investing more than $20,000 of personal resources into production, travel, visuals, recording, and promotion. Working as a digital nomad and collaborating remotely across countries, he assembled a diverse roster of voices including ShoeGang, Zombie Juice, The Game, KXNG Crooked, Charles Hamilton, Marco Vernice, Sashaa, and Siggas. Each artist contributes a unique perspective while serving the larger message.
Structured as a thematic journey, the EP explores conflict from multiple angles. Songs such as “War Within” examine personal battles alongside broader societal struggles. “A.F.R.I.C.A” addresses inequality and survival through a global lens, while “Dreamer” introduces optimism and perseverance. “Slave Music” reflects on freedom and identity, and “Peace?” questions whether genuine peace remains achievable in modern society. Together, the tracks function as chapters within a unified story.
