Every Other Weekend’s “Resolution” is a song born from upheaval, reflection, and the quiet determination to keep moving forward. Led by Chris Bull, the former frontman of Manchester indie-rock band City Reign, the London-based project transforms personal loss and life-changing transitions into music that feels intimate, thoughtful, and deeply human. While the track arrives as part of the forthcoming debut album “All Present and Inept,” it also stands on its own as a powerful statement about resilience, connection, and finding peace amid uncertainty.
The foundations of Every Other Weekend were shaped during one of the most challenging periods of Bull’s life. The loss of his father, the breakdown of his first marriage, and the end of City Reign forced him to confront profound change. Faced with a future that looked entirely different from the one he had imagined, Bull stepped away from music before eventually rediscovering it through a place tied closely to memory and family.
Returning to his childhood home became a turning point. There, he found himself drawn to the piano his father had once played and taught him to appreciate. Sitting in front of that instrument, free from expectations and creative pressure, he began reconnecting with music more instinctively. It was in that environment that “Resolution” emerged, carried first by a melody that arrived naturally and demanded space to speak for itself.
That sense of restraint defines the song. Rather than relying on elaborate arrangements or dense lyrical narratives, “Resolution” embraces simplicity. The piano remains at the center, creating an atmosphere where every note feels purposeful. Bull deliberately avoided overcomplicating the composition, allowing emotion to emerge through mood and texture rather than explanation. The result is a track that invites listeners to bring their own experiences into its open spaces.
The recording process reinforces the song’s personal nature. Produced in Bull’s mother’s garage using much of his late father’s recording equipment, the track carries a tangible connection between past and present. Assistance from former Abbey Road engineer Mick Morrison helped shape the sessions, while former City Reign bandmate Mike Grice contributed a lead guitar performance that adds movement and emotional depth without disrupting the song’s delicate balance.
What makes “Resolution” particularly compelling is its understanding of modern life. Beneath its calm surface lies an acknowledgment of anxiety, isolation, and the struggle to form meaningful connections. Yet the song never becomes overwhelmed by those realities. Instead, it offers a gentle reminder that music, memory, and human connection remain powerful sources of healing. Through Every Other Weekend, Chris Bull transforms personal reflection into something universal, creating songs that resonate long after the final note fades away.
