A collaboration as organic as the landscapes that inspired it comes from North Wales. Eve Goodman and SERA (Sarah Zyborska) are two of Wales's most treasured singer-songwriters who have brought together their voices and visions for "Natur," a stunning ten-track Welsh-language album reflecting the deep cyclical relationship between women and the natural world.
Written and recorded in the lush beauty of Snowdonia, "Natur" feels like an echo of the land itself timeless, soulful, and sacred. Each track flows as a chapter of a living folk tale: from a playful sea shanty about a mermaid of the Menai Strait to an a acapella spell-song both ancient and contemporary. There is "Anian," a pulse of modern existence's intensity, with a catchy chorus and needle-like reflections on burnout. And there is "Bendith," the first track on the album, rising to a sweet Celtic blessing, holding gratitude for the earth.
The collaboration commenced in 2019 when the two artists were chosen as BBC Horizons Artists. United by their shared origins from Caernarfon and an intrigue of the natural environment, they began to look into the Welsh language for words: words for plants and animals; words for the spirit of the land; words for things that can’t be seen. After what started as a writing experiment developed into a body of work that felt inevitable a celebration of the music of feminine rhythm and human wildness.
Natur was co-produced by Colin Bass at Wild End Studio near Llanrwst and carries an authenticity that is seldom heard in modern folk. The earthy instrumentation, harmonies, and lyrical layers produce a project that feels, at once, like honoring Welsh heritage and a new way to encourage wild belonging.
In performances for BBC Maida Vale, Welsh TV’s “Heno,” and their upcoming tour as support for Julie Fowlis, Goodman and SERA continue to share Natur with audiences far beyond Wales reminding everyone that when we look to nature, we remember ourselves.
