Nick Cain Strikes Heartstrings and Hope with “One More For The Road”: A Twangy Narrative of Longing and Second Chances

Nick Cain is a melancholic country artist in the Belfair, Washington area. He is making solid inroads as an important new voice in country music, as evidenced by his latest release, “One More For The Road.” The song is a textured, emotional, and dusky interpretation of the feeling of longing not just for love, but more for the possibilities hovering around one more chance in time. "One More For The Road" embraces the dualities of possibility and commitment, love and loss.

The song begins with melodic guitar and swingy percussive pulse. Cain's voice is honest and vulnerable as he sings about finally meeting the eyes of someone he has waited on, perhaps for many invested years.

The wistfulness of a man willing to take one more chance at hope for the hope constant in his memories. The line "I've asked you out 100 times, 'You had excuses for the 99,' is creatively funny and encapsulated in the simple truth that love includes the need and desire to communicate interest.

Brandon Bell (Brandi Carlile, Zac Brown Band) produced the session, which sounds pristine and raw, and captures the best qualities of Americana's storytelling roots. Cain's late but fearless entrance into making music deepens it all.

This is a person singing from experience, not from the industry clean-up. "One More For The Road" feels like the last scene of a movie; windows rolled down, heart cracked open, a song you didn't expect to feel so much.
