Mystic, Connecticut band Delta of Venus has returned for their second release, "Intertwined b/w Intertwined (acoustic)," a remarkable double-sided single advancing the idea of shoegaze in the modern day. With the keen momentum from their well-received debut "Disengaged b/w Slipping," this band sets out on a daring sonic adventure exploring emotional significance in a world of conflicting disinvolvement.
"Intertwined," in its original version, has a depth of reverb-soaked guitars and a fullness of sound. It pulls you into atmospheric textures and meaningful urgency. Without trying to dig too deeply into the haze, the lyrics assess the shared experience of being human and imply that having empathy and consideration for others (especially for those we may never know) is the only response when faced with the chaos of our current reality. The song embodies a feeling of floating through a fog of noise and emotion that is a distinctive feature of the genre, while preserving the band's core idea rather beautifully: We are lost, tangled up together.
As it turns out, the acoustic version of "Intertwined" may be the single's most revealing moment, and is the consequence of one of those humorous and offhandedly spoken remarks made at rehearsal. Stranded in instrumentation, "Intertwined (acoustic)" is a heartfelt confession. Guitarist Ellery Twining's accompaniment furthers this quality, adding an unencumbered and vulnerable set of textures which enable the lyrical significance to surface without losing the dreamlike/calming atmospheric tapestry.
