Austin-based artist Venus Niebres Taylor makes music from the meeting point of cultures, languages, and personal experience. Her single “Solo Una Fan” brings that identity into a Spanglish track, using an uncomfortable relationship situation to deliver a message about confidence, self-respect, and refusing to be intimidated.
The song addresses an obsessive ex who struggles to move on and begins copying and monitoring the new girlfriend of a former partner. Taylor approaches the subject with humour and defiance rather than allowing the behaviour to define the woman experiencing it. The central idea is pointed: imitation does not diminish the original; it reveals where the influence began. For listeners who have faced similar tension, the track offers recognition without surrendering its danceable energy.
The lyric, “at the end of the day... you'll always be una fan,” captures that attitude. Its mix of English and Spanish is more than a stylistic flourish. It reflects Taylor’s upbringing in San Antonio, where Spanglish was part of everyday communication, through conversations with her Mexican stepfather. The language gives the song a natural voice, connecting its message to the cultural environment that helped shape her.
Taylor’s musical identity is rooted in a family and artistic background. With African American and Filipina heritage and a Mexican stepfather, she grew up around different cultural influences. She began writing songs at ten, took part in childhood pageants and school performances, and later appeared as a featured performer for ABS-CBN in the Philippines. Her inspirations include Selena Quintanilla, Britney Spears, Thalia and Paulina Rubio, while her catalogue moves between English, Tagalog and Spanish.
Creative independence is central to her work. As founder of V Records, Taylor wrote, produced and recorded “Solo Una Fan” in her own Austin studio. Working independently and without an imposed deadline allowed her to concentrate on the lyrics and the beat, shaping the track at her own pace. Her experience as a DAW producer gives her direct involvement in the sound as well as the songwriting.
Her community now includes more than 15,000 supporters across the United States, the Philippines, Mexico, and Colombia. Although budget limitations keep most live performances on Facebook Live, Taylor continues sharing her music directly with listeners.
“Solo Una Fan” turns relationship frustration into an upbeat statement of dignity. Its lasting message is simple: another person's attempts to copy or unsettle you do not determine your worth.
