Spinors approaches alternative rock as an open question, giving listeners room to decide what a song means through experience. The London band’s steampunk aesthetic complements that idea, pairing a visual identity with lyrics that examine ambition, manipulation, heartbreak, and self-deception.
Founded by Argentine singer and guitarist Sergie Code, Spinors began after he moved to the United Kingdom to develop his musical career abroad. His earlier projects in Argentina provided a foundation, while London offered a new setting. Bassist Gabe Scapigliati and drummer Cristina Pucci joined the lineup, helping shape the group’s presence and recordings.
The band name comes from a concept in quantum physics: a spinor can represent a property that behaves differently depending on how it is observed. Spinors apply that idea to music, leaving meaning unresolved until a listener encounters it. “You Loved the Cage,” the group’s third single, gives that philosophy a subject through a relationship shaped by hardship, dependence, and separation.
The song follows two people who support one another while struggling in destructive circumstances. When one breaks free, the narrator interprets the departure as rejection: once freedom arrives, love appears to disappear. The accompanying video complicates this account, suggesting that the woman remains caught in addiction while the man has overcome his own and chooses to move forward. Neither perspective provides a simple verdict. Their different readings expose how pain can distort judgment and how recovery can change the meaning of shared history.
Sergie’s composition balances forceful seventies-inspired guitar riffs with dense verses that recall stoner rock and grunge. A powerful chorus gives the track a focal point, while a solo shaped by Arabic scales adds color to its harmonic uncertainty. The arrangement gathers its contrasting influences in a finale. Nawe plays drums, and Santi plays bass; Nico Resnikof mixed and mastered the recording at Romaphonic Studios.
The video, directed and edited by Sergie with cinematography by Jay Notley, carries Spinors’ steampunk style into locations in Lincoln and London. Local participants brought stories to the production, making the shoot a meeting point between artistic expression and everyday experience.
Alongside “Walk Alone,” about pursuing dreams beyond familiar boundaries, and “Choose to Believe,” which questions manipulation in a post-truth culture, “You Loved the Cage” establishes Spinors as a band drawn to difficult questions. Its central challenge is intimate but deeply recognizable: when someone leaves, are we grieving the person, the struggle we shared, or the future we expected.
