SIENNÁ approaches electronic music through perception, using sound to translate impressions that are hard to explain in language. The Kyoto-born, Oslo-based artist, producer, and composer extends that philosophy across “EMA,” a nine-track album shaped by nature, spiritual awareness, and exploration between Japanese tradition and European experimentation.
The album takes its name from the Japanese ema, a wooden votive object traditionally used to communicate wishes or prayers. For SIENNÁ, that idea becomes an artistic framework: “EMA” functions as a personal channel for listening to messages perceived within the natural world. The compositions grew from experiences in Kyoto’s Kibune valley and on Ischia island, where walking through landscapes became part of the creative process. Instead of drawing what she encountered, SIENNÁ translated those impressions into music.
The album feels less like a conventional collection of electronic tracks and more like a sequence of sonic images. Its nine pieces move across cinematic textures, ambient passages, drum and bass energy, glitch experimentation, and interpretations of Japanese aesthetics. The contrast reflects SIENNÁ’s philosophy, which rejects genre boundaries in favor of intuition, atmosphere, and discovery.
“Be A Seeker, Believer” is a composition concerned with resilience and self-belief. Its message speaks to people trying to maintain hope in a world that can feel beautiful and painful. SIENNÁ does not disguise that tension. The optimism comes from continuing to search, question, and believe when certainty is unavailable.
Her creative identity has been shaped by an East-meets-West perspective without reducing either culture to stereotype. Classical instrumentation, jazz, experimental electronics, house, and Japanese influences coexist within an unrestricted production language. Her “no rules” philosophy lets each piece develop according to its emotional needs rather than conforming to structures.
SIENNÁ’s experience as a live electronic artist and DJ across Europe and Asia has placed her alongside musicians, including Norwegian trumpeter Nils Petter Molvær, the late English bassist Mick Karn, and The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Those collaborations reinforce the depth of an artist whose curiosity extends beyond electronic music.
“EMA” ultimately asks listeners to slow down and become receptive. Its greatest strength lies in treating electronic sound as a space for reflection, connection, and inner awareness. SIENNÁ creates music that accepts imperfection as part of being deeply human, offering an alternative to formulaic digital culture while reminding us that creative discovery often begins when we become quiet to listen.
