New Sunday Finds Purpose Through Personal Recovery and Songwriting with “Here I Am Meant To Be”

New Sunday transforms personal survival into purposeful songwriting, and “Here I Am Meant To Be” captures the Hafnarfjordur, Iceland studio project at its most revealing. Founded by songwriter Einar Askelsson, New Sunday grew from a creative partnership with vocalist Elizabet “Lizzie” and producer Simon. Constant communication has developed into a partnership built on trust, freedom, and shared decisions.

The story behind Einar’s songwriting gives the project its deeper significance. Around twelve years ago, he was struggling with Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, severe anxiety, and exhaustion. During recovery, a therapist encouraged him to find something to fight each morning. Einar reached for a guitar and began playing a few chords. What started as a way to manage anxiety became a creative discipline, leading him toward poetry, music theory, and songwriting.

That experience shapes New Sunday’s music. Einar begins with lyrics, drawing from older poems or experiences that left lasting impressions. He develops each song as a story, then creates chords and melodies designed to carry meaning. His philosophy has evolved toward “less is more,” trusting melody and atmosphere to communicate what complexity cannot.

“Here I Am Meant To Be” adds another piece to that catalogue. Following “Echoes In The Dark” and “The Empty Street,” the song reflects the sonic identity New Sunday has developed without becoming a fixed formula. Personal storytelling and collaborative interpretation allow each contributor to influence the final result.

The production process is distinctive. Einar constructs the instrumental foundation using Hooktheory, defining tempo, key, time signature, chords, melodies, structure, and arrangement. Lizzie brings her artistic interpretation to the vocal, while Simon reshapes the material through production and mixing. The finished recording emerges through ongoing exchange.

New Sunday’s studio-based approach reflects Einar’s ambition. He never set out to become a frontman or touring musician. His goal is songwriting: developing songs other musicians might eventually discover and perform. That makes the project feel less like a traditional band and more like a creative home for songs that need to exist.

The result gives vulnerability a musical language without reducing recovery to an inspirational story. “Here I Am Meant To Be” is about finding direction after uncertainty. New Sunday shows creativity becoming a path toward recovery, self-understanding, and connection. Einar’s journey gives the music grounded humanity, proving that sometimes the path toward purpose begins with simply picking up an instrument and refusing to stop.
