BOYSARM Connects Nigerian Street Culture and Devotion in “I Go Lie For You”

Lagos artist BOYSARM is developing a distinctive musical identity through what he calls “Elite Awakening Sounds,” combining traditional Highlife influences with contemporary production and the everyday language of Nigerian life. His single “I Go Lie For You” reflects that approach, transforming a familiar street expression into an affectionate declaration that connects cultural authenticity with personal commitment.

The phrase at the heart of the song carries a meaning that becomes clearer through its local context. “I Go Lie For You” is a conversational Nigerian expression meaning “I am not lying to you.” Within the song, it communicates sincerity and dedication toward someone special. Its strength lies in its familiarity: the language sounds natural because it belongs to everyday communication, allowing the sentiment to feel direct instead of artificially romantic.

That connection between ordinary speech and emotional meaning gives BOYSARM’s songwriting a recognizable foundation. Love does not always require elaborate promises or carefully constructed declarations. Sometimes, the most convincing expression is the phrase people already use to reassure one another. By drawing on Nigerian street slang, BOYSARM preserves the character of his environment while giving a familiar expression a musical life of its own.

The production supports this cultural grounding through a blend of Highlife influence and the artist’s contemporary sonic direction. J6ix handles production, while King Chargy oversees mixing and mastering, bringing technical refinement to a recording rooted in local expression. The collaboration illustrates how polished sound can complement cultural identity without removing the qualities that make a song feel connected to its origins.

Lagos also remains central to the release’s visual identity. The official music video was filmed in Surulere, a district whose everyday urban atmosphere provides a fitting setting for a song shaped by recognizable local language and experience. The location reinforces the relationship between BOYSARM’s music and the community from which its ideas emerge.

His wider journey includes the Elite-EP and performances designed to bring listeners together around his developing sound. An event held in partnership with the British Council in Lagos introduced the project to a substantial audience, while his appearance at Shell Hall, Muson Centre, demonstrated his ambitions as a live performer. Support from Lestat Entertainment contributes to his continued development.

As a University of Lagos undergraduate building an independent artistic identity, BOYSARM occupies a space between cultural inheritance and contemporary ambition. “I Go Lie For You” reflects that balance through familiar language, expressive musical influences, and a straightforward message about trust. Its appeal rests on an enduring human idea: affection becomes meaningful when words feel genuine, understandable, and connected to the life people actually share.
