Animal Souls Opens a Dreamlike Door Into “Colorful Land” With Ella Blame

Animal Souls brings imagination and collaboration together in “Colorful Land (feat. Ella Blame),” an introduction to the forthcoming album The Abyss. Led by bassist and producer Michael Fisher, the project has always resisted confinement. Here, Fisher creates a foundation for Munich-born, Wisconsin-based indie artist Ella Blame, whose lyrics, vocals, and cover artwork give the song its colorful personality.

“Colorful Land” enters an imagined world filled with violet sand, smiling flowers, turquoise landscapes, and trees that seem to grow overnight. The imagery feels playful and childlike, but the song gradually reveals something more emotionally complex. The colorful environment becomes a place of escape, wonder, and renewed happiness. The question of whether this place exists in reality or only inside the mind adds an important layer of uncertainty.

That ambiguity makes the track deeply human. Imagination can be a refuge when ordinary life feels confusing, heavy, or emotionally exhausting. Fisher and Blame allow fantasy to become a language for rediscovering joy without pretending difficult feelings do not exist. The song suggests that inner worlds can hold genuine value, offering space to breathe, create, and reconnect with possibility.

The collaboration is central to the recording. Fisher provides the music and performances, while Blame contributes the words, vocals, and artwork. Fisher has described himself as a longtime admirer of Blame’s music and painting, making their partnership feel rooted in artistic appreciation. Her presence gives “Colorful Land” an intimate storytelling quality that complements the electronic atmosphere.

The song also signals a new direction for Animal Souls. The Abyss explores Fisher’s interest in synth-influenced music, expanding the palette of a project known for unpredictable instrumentation. Across previous releases, arrangements have been shaped by each composition instead of genre expectations, allowing instruments such as flute, dobro, violin, and layered synthesizers to appear wherever the song demands them.

Fisher’s musical history stretches back decades, although his recording and production work accelerated after the COVID pandemic created an opportunity to devote himself to music. Animal Souls has since developed an eclectic catalogue spanning albums, an EP, and numerous singles.

“Colorful Land” captures that freedom beautifully. It is whimsical without being shallow, electronic without losing warmth, and imaginative without abandoning emotional truth. Animal Souls and Ella Blame create a universe where happiness can be rediscovered, reminding listeners that sometimes the mind’s landscapes can become places where hope begins again.
