Reetoxa Finds Beauty in Heartbreak Through the Song “Love Keeps Burning Still”

Reetoxa channels decades of lived experience into music that values honesty over perfection, creating songs that linger because they are rooted in real events rather than manufactured drama. The Melbourne-based project, led by songwriter and vocalist Jason McKee, represents the culmination of a lifelong creative pursuit, bringing together seasoned Australian musicians and international collaborators to transform personal memories into timeless stories. “Love Keeps Burning Still” captures that ambition with remarkable clarity, standing as one of the most intimate moments in Reetoxa’s growing catalogue.

Written during the uncertainty of the COVID lockdown period, the song emerged from a season of relentless creativity. McKee immersed himself completely in songwriting, reportedly writing up to ten songs a day as he searched for meaning during isolation. That intensity eventually came at a personal cost, yet it also unlocked a level of vulnerability that defines the emotional core of this release.

Rather than hiding from pain, “Love Keeps Burning Still” accepts it as part of the human experience and asks whether love truly disappears when relationships end.

The story behind the song is deeply personal. It reflects on McKee’s relationship with Lee, whom he met during Munich’s famous Oktoberfest in 2003. Their connection grew into a marriage that lasted from 2011 until 2016, but the demands of Jason’s determination to pursue music gradually pulled them apart. There is an undeniable irony in that reality. The same artistic drive that created distance also inspired a song capable of preserving the beauty of what was shared.

Reetoxa surrounds that story with understated elegance. Delicate piano passages performed by Terry Hart create space for the vocals to breathe, while the addition of a Budapest strings orchestra gives the arrangement a cinematic depth rarely attempted by independent artists. Guided by producer Simon Moro and supported by respected musicians including Kit Riley, Jessica McPherson-Riley, James Ryan, and Peter Marin, the recording balances intimacy with grandeur. Coordinating the orchestral performances remotely through Zoom only reinforces the project’s willingness to embrace bold creative risks.

“Love Keeps Burning Still” also reflects the character of Melbourne itself, a city where grit and beauty often exist side by side. Like the streets that inspired it, the song carries traces of longing, resilience, and quiet optimism. Reetoxa ultimately reminds listeners that while relationships may fade, the emotions they awaken continue to shape us, and sometimes the most enduring love stories are the ones transformed into art.
