Cosmic Anxiety Confronts Modern Alienation with the Single “The Crack in My Heart”

Emerging from the creative undercurrents of Berlin, Cosmic Anxiety is a new electronic project shaped by transformation, identity, and emotional honesty. Founded in October 2025 by musicians Eli and Gasher after the dissolution of their previous band, Clash Clash Bang Bang, the duo represents a deliberate shift in sound and philosophy. Where their earlier work leaned on traditional band instrumentation, Cosmic Anxiety explores a synth-centered sonic world. Their debut single, “The Crack in My Heart,” stands as the first clear statement of this evolving artistic vision.

Both artists arrived at the project with shared history. Eli previously played drums while Gasher worked with electric violin and guitar in their former band. When that chapter ended, the two began searching for a new musical direction that could express deeper personal themes. Cosmic Anxiety became the result: a two-person electronic act built on experimentation, introspection, and creative independence.

Central to their sound is the Synthstrom Deluge, the hardware instrument Gasher uses to construct the musical framework of their recordings. Its architecture allows the duo to shape detailed electronic textures while keeping the process tactile and intuitive. Gasher first composed the instrumental foundation for “The Crack in My Heart,” creating a moody landscape inspired by late-1980s and 1990s electronic aesthetics alongside subtle Y2K influences. The result carries echoes of earlier eras yet feels rooted in contemporary alternative pop.

The emotional core of the track arrived quickly. After hearing the instrumental, Eli wrote the lyrics almost immediately, completing them within an afternoon. The song reflects on the pressures of modern life: social politeness that hides deeper fractures, the quiet alienation people experience in everyday environments, and the gradual fading of empathy in a hyper-structured society. Beneath its electronic pulse lies a direct appeal for human connection.

Recording took place in Berlin at Studio Ganymed during a focused evening session. Before that moment, the duo had created a demo version during rehearsal in November 2025. Living with the demo for several weeks allowed them to refine the arrangement and sharpen its emotional impact before entering the studio for the final take.

Cosmic Anxiety’s creative process remains intentionally personal. The band avoids artificial intelligence tools entirely, choosing instead to craft each element through human effort. Gasher even designed the single’s cover artwork using the 3D software Blender, reinforcing their commitment to independent artistry. For Eli and Gasher, Cosmic Anxiety began as a form of therapy. Yet their message reaches further. “The Crack in My Heart” introduces a project determined to confront alienation and rediscover empathy one synth-driven confession at a time.
