JDukes of Roots’ “Stoner’s Paradise”: A High-Spirited Ode to Freedom and Conscious Vibration

Roots reggae has always been more than music; it’s been a vessel for truth, unity, and spiritual awakening. With their latest single, “Stoner’s Paradise,” the soulful collective JDukes of Roots captures that essence with a refreshing balance of tradition and modern energy. This isn’t just another ode to the herb; it’s a profound meditation on consciousness, connection, and finding peace within the rhythm of life.

Following their electric performance at Rototom Sunsplash’s 30th Anniversary in Spain, JDukes of Roots continue to expand reggae’s boundaries while honoring its golden foundation. “Stoner’s Paradise” emerges as a lush, groove-driven anthem where roots meet reflection, an uplifting track that celebrates the spirit of liberation and unity at the heart of reggae music.

Fronted by Mermans “Mo Faya” Mosengo, whose magnetic vocals and soulful delivery ground the song in emotional authenticity, the band radiates chemistry and purpose. Mosengo, originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo and now based in Los Angeles, brings a global resonance to the group’s sound. As a featured artist with Playing For Change, he’s known for bridging cultures through music, and in “Stoner’s Paradise,” that unity flows effortlessly.

The rhythm section stands as a masterclass in roots craftsmanship. Legendary bassist George “Fully” Fullwood, one of reggae’s founding architects, anchors the groove with the same warmth and precision that has shaped records by Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Black Uhuru, and Gregory Isaacs. Alongside him, Grammy-winning drummer Courtney “Bam” Diedrick, who is celebrated for his work with Damian Marley, Mick Jagger, and Joss Stone, provides a heartbeat that’s steady, hypnotic, and alive with conviction. Completing the core lineup, T Rod (guitarist and primary songwriter) and Stevie “TigerTone” Verhault bring melody and texture, blending timeless licks with modern production that keeps the sound fresh yet familiar.

Beyond its laid-back groove, “Stoner’s Paradise” carries a message rooted in positivity, self-discovery, and peace. The track transcends the cliché of the “stoner song,” instead offering a space for reflection: a reminder that paradise isn’t found in a place or substance, but in a state of mind.

As JDukes of Roots prepare for more international performances and a forthcoming album, “Stoner’s Paradise” serves as both a celebration and a declaration. It reminds us that reggae’s soul, its call for unity and freedom, still burns bright. And in the hands of this intergenerational ensemble, that flame feels destined to light up a new era of roots consciousness.
