The Tin Can Collective strikes back with The Thrill Is Gone and I Can't Get It Back, the band's fifth full-length LP that showcases the pains of getting older, the beauty of imperfection, and the grit of the DIY American music scene.
Founded in 2011 by John Warren (who spoke about the community spirit in the band), The Tin Can Collective was intended as a bedroom recording project. The group has grown into a close-knit musical family, featuring Jess Warren (guitar, vocals), Paul Motisi (bass, vocals, artwork for the album), and Cass Kadow (drums). The album also features Pete Cianciotto on guitar for "Trouble," and will also feature group vocals from Will Forthman, Caitlin Donohue, and Jay Carrie. All of these players delivered a collective spirit and energy with them that described the essence of this particular project.
The album was recorded live in a living room and was engineered and produced by Will Forthman and Jay Carrie of Dinos in Vietnam Productions, and mixed by Grammy-nominated producer Jack Shirley (Jeff Rosenstock, Deafheaven, Joyce Manor). The album is raw, organic, and human, and all of the imperfections feel like a true representation of authenticity.
The Thrill Is Gone and I Can't Get It Back serves as an honest account of one’s disillusionment and journey to self-reflection. The album tracks include “Trouble,” which takes the listener on a ride as Warren grows up from being a reckless kid and into adulthood, looking in the mirror and confronting his ghosts from the past with brutal honesty.
Warren's words have the weight of experience still ringing true and the feeling that the band is still alive and trying to find truth through a composition of distortion and heartbreak.
With twelve tracks, this record neatly balances ear-piercing punk urgency with warm and laid-back indie vibes, securing The Tin Can Collective as one of the most honest and heartfelt acts from Long Island. This is not just a record, but a confession, a love letter, and a farewell to the ephemeral nature of youth.
