Baby T Reaches New Heights with "40" Album

For Baby T of Chicago, hip-hop has never been a form devoid of a lived truth, cultural pride, and a way to tell stories that connect diverse worlds. The beauty of Baby T’s new album, 40, is that he sharpens that mission. This 11-track album is a terrific journey that feels personal but also universal.

After receiving three World Entertainment Awards (WEA) nominations for his single "Things About To Change", Baby T brings into the world 40, as someone who has the fearlessness of a young artist exploring their growth in public, while we all explore where he is going as he travels through time.

The album is rich with skits, live instrumentation, Caribbean-infused rhythms, and Baby T's long-form, lyrical style of rhyme. Cuts like "Greed" and "Dem Ones" dissect circles of ambition, loyalty, and betrayal, while "Things About To Change" holds the record together with a light and positive premise of transformation. What makes 40 special is its dynamic aspect; every song seems to be a new chapter, the transitions are analogous to scenes, and the totality feels like a narrative as reflections of Baby T's growth and also maps onto enduring aspects of hip-hop that have served as a form of social commentary.

"This album is everything I’ve lived, everything I’ve learned, and everything I’m still becoming”, says Baby T. That dual sense of reckoning & celebration is present throughout the entirety of the album. Vulnerability hangs alongside bravado, cultural pride adjacent to a pointed attack; the realities of Baby T’s experience resonate with the work of successful artists who came before him, Nas & Kendrick Lamar, yet it’s entirely his experience.

Outside of the music, 40 is designed to live on. The album has all of the qualities of a limited-edition vinyl project, not simply a release but a cultural object, as evidence that hip-hop can transcend time, but can also look forward.

Baby T has performed alongside legends like Nipsey Hussle and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, but with 40. It’s not simply performance, it’s presence. This is purposeful hip-hop, made for the now, but destined for relevance in the future.
