David English turns personal turmoil into spiritual clarity with "Soul (Remix)".

After a brief hiatus, the Barcelona-based artist David English has returned with "Soul (Remix)", a track that is unerringly honest and personal; it is soul-searching for all of us, as it digs into our humanity. English began the song after a simple melody and a couple of lines of poetry began to come out of him. The song quickly evolved into a meditation on our purpose, struggles, and spiritual awakening.

What started as a potent yet ambiguous emotional expression evolved into a moving tribute to Gary Zukav's The Seat of the Soul, a philosophical/spiritual book that had a serious impact on English as he was confronting a time of deep introspection.  English's lyrics pulse with existential weight as he sings about all at once being exasperated, lost, and disconnected, then eventually returning to his deeper truth.  The atmosphere and unique, layered production lay a solid foundation for English's reflections on certainty during this time of moral and spiritual ambiguity.

"Soul" doesn't preach, it reveals. It reminds us that the way to clarity is typically not linear. The slow, patient songwriting process of English mirrors the slow emergence of self-awareness. His vulnerability is what endows the song with its quiet power. The phrase, "We are found-safe and sound," is less a lyric and more a mantra; it is a gesture of peace to navigate with in our storms. With "Soul (Remix), David English gives us more than music. In sound, he provides a spiritual checkpoint for the listener, re-basing them in grace, truth, and, finally, back to the self.
