San Francisco artist Michellar crescendos into uncharted waters in her musical path with her first Spanish-language single, “Aunque Sea Por Una Noche” (translated: “If It’s Only for One Night”) featuring the silky vocals of Jiji Picazo. The song is a bittersweet homage to passing love and lingering emotional attachment, those moments we wish would last eternally, but eventually slip beyond our grasp, and remain in our hearts for a long time to come.
Michellar weaves Filipino and Southern Latin influences with her exceptional storytelling, creating a melody that is familiar and new all at once. Co-produced with the help of Lloyd Miller studio, Spirit Song Studios, in Austin, it ventures toward songs that each have a personal place in Michellar's life, like the classic, “Bésame Mucho” (popularized by Andrea Bocelli and Santana); and, mornings as a child of her parents serenading.
"Even If It's Only For One Night" holds meaning beyond being a song; it's an assertion of cultural identity. Michellar carefully translated her lyrics from English, and the song "evolved" with Jiji during their studio sessions at Women's Audio Mission.
There is something both personal and familiar about the music; lush instrumentation and careful phrasing allow listeners to travel to warm moonlit nights, steeped in longing and romantic idealism.
This debut release represents possibility, authenticity, and a voice that is ready to cross borders, both emotional and musical.
