Berlin-based artist Marie Chain returns with a genre-blending gem in the form of her new single "Holy Water," merging soul, blues, Afrobeats, and gospel to create what she calls sometimes "Global Soul." The song invites the listener, both grounded and transcendent, to shed the burdens of emotional weight and step into healing. A politically and socially charged anthem coinciding with the times we're living in.
Inspired by a memorable hike in the Bavarian Alps with friends last fall, Chain wrote the song during the hike with inspiration flowing from a nearby mountain creek. "Holy Water" is more than a song; it is a ritual. Chain's voice rises with fullness and certainty as she continually repeats "Holy Water", creating a sense of cleansing and renovation.
The production, polished but organic, is fueled by her experience DJing in Angola, incorporating African percussive textures mixed with gospel style harmonies.
Marie Chain is much more than a performer; she is a storyteller, a healer, and a connector. She epitomizes authenticity and chronicles a musical journey from clubs in Berlin to stages across the globe. This authenticity shows in the release of her current effort. With over a million streams of her music, festival performances in Egypt, Mexico, and a German Songwriting Award to her credit, this song, "Holy Water," feels like the start of a new transformative chapter.
