Immortal Wild's "Promises”: A Pop Song About Heartbreak, Hope, and Smoothness

The Australian-American duo, Immortal Wild, is made up of Debra Roberts and Tom Freeland. The duo's latest single, "Promises," is an emotional and groove-rich pop anthem that lingers long past the final note. The song's subject matter makes its emotional impact ring even deeper in that it takes somewhat of a somewhat deep dive into the fragile space between expectation and heartbreak, balanced with rhythm and production that provide some level of uplift.

At the heart of "Promises" is the honest, intimate, and raw vocal delivery of Debra Roberts; one moment tender and weak, the next moment soft yet powerful with imagery that illustrates the pain of disappointment, yet closing out with a semblance of resilience.

The instrumental parts by Tom Freeland who plays guitar, keyboards, synth, and a myriad of percussion parts are rooted in chordal movement, with several lead guitar-inducing lines that spiral back in on itself, with layered keys and polished electronic instrumentation completing a slick, contemporary sound that feels like it could fall under "fresh" but also "timeless."

Immortal Wild's second single, "Promises," builds off the positive feelings and connections that came with their debut, "Zanzibar," which, of course, affirms Immortal Wild's increasing reputation for excellence in writing genuinely heartfelt, emotional pop songs that have fail-safe ways of fostering universal connections. As a duo who seems to be steadily combining their organic instruments with their electronic elements, they are also one of the most impressive emerging acts in Australia.
