Josh Jensen’s “Be Human” Delivers a Timeless Message for Unity in All Its Songwriting Brilliance

Seattle-based singer-songwriter Josh Jensen delivers a powerful message in the song “Be Human” that showcases folk storytelling and acoustic warmth. The single is a moving representation of Jensen’s artistic growth and unity for a divided world.

Jensen single-handedly wrote and recorded “Be Human,” using only his phone; it’s emotionally giving because the heartfelt stylistic arrangement feels minimalist. Josh’s soft piano and guitar performance amplified a natural canvas with his sincere vocal and storytelling sensibilities, Hannah Wyatt’s eerily beautiful fiddle and harmony vocal brought unmatched emotional quality that complimented the message of the song. The mixing and mastering were done by engineer Luke Rain; the result sounds professional, polished, intimate, and like a studio-quality experience that started as a DIY experience.

Drawing influences from both the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, and the current sociopolitical climate, “Be Human” serves as a contemporary folk anthem reminding us that despite our differences, we all have shared humanity in common.

You can check out Josh live at the NW Folk Life Festival on May 25 in Seattle, in the meantime, let “Be Human” remind you the strength empathy can carry while framed around a song.
